KELULUT HONEY OR LEBAH KELULUT HONEY
Kelulut Honey is probably the most famous local Malaysian Honey which is known to many people in the world, It’s also called Trigona Honey, a poly-floral Honey produced by a stingless bee, Geniotrigona thoracica, a very small bee of 3 to 5 mm in comparison to Apis dorsata of 20 mm, which produces maximum 500 g of Honey per year in so-called pots, inside cavities.
This type of Honey has a higher water content around 25% compared to only 18% in floral Honeys. When it is not fresh it has a slightly sour taste, due to fermentation, the sweet-sour, fruity-scented Kelulut Honey, contains a lot more vitamins, minerals, and medicinal properties compare to many other similar types of Honey.
Tualang Honey is very popular in Malaysia, it’s wild polyfloral Honey produced by the giant bee Apis dorsata in huge combs hanging in open space, up on the branches of a very tall tree.
Harvesting this Honey is known as Honey hunting, and it does look like a robbery.
Apis dorsata bees produce a lot of Honey, at one Honey hunting the harvest can be of 140kg.
This Honey also called Cajeput Honey or Tea tree Honey, it is produced by Apis dorsata from some species of trees in Melaleuca genus, specially from the tree called Melaleuca cajuputi also known as Melaleuca leucadendra.
Gelam Honey is loved by so many people in Malaysia and around the world, Gelam Honey is heavy bodied and has a slight pungent taste, recent studies have reported that it possesses a notably high calcium content and has a high level of antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Pineapple Honey is amber in colour, mildly sweet and has a slight sour taste similar to the pineapple fruit. It is produced by Apis mellifera bees.
Boreno Honey is a poly-floral Honey produced locally by Apis cerana, the eastern Honey bee, Asiatic Honey bee or Asian Honey bee, which is a species of Honey bee native to southern, south-eastern, and eastern Asia including Malaysia,the bees collect the nectar mainly from the Forest mangrove or Mangium tree or Acacia mangium trees and flowers.
It’s light amber in colour and has a very high ascorbic acid content probably the highest in all Malaysian Honeys.
Manuka Honey is a mono-floral Honey produced from the nectar of the Manuka tree, Leptospermum, If the Manuka Flower could grow anywhere, Manuka Honey would not be as rare a natural occurrence. But in addition to a short bloom window, Manuka Flowers are only found in specific microclimates in its native New Zealand, often in the most isolated hills and forests.

Acacia Honey comes from black locust tree or “False Acacia” tree, it is loved by many in the world and is top seller in United States because of its taste and appearance. Acacia Honey has a sweet, delicate flavour with hints of vanilla, a clean floral aroma and no aftertaste.
Malaysian people love Acacia Honey and is one of the best sellers in the market, most of Acacia Honey in Malaysia comes from different countries such as European Countries and Australia.
The major reason for the popularity of Acacia Honey is its nutrient value and its ability to crystallize slowly.

Processors and manufacturers buy raw Honeys from beekeepers or wholesalers, then they would sell Honeys in form of raw or regular, pre-pack or bulk to the wholesalers, retailers or other cooperatives, exporters normally buy their Honeys from manufactures because of full documentation and the trust they would have and that’s down to national and international certifications manufactures has to have.
Wholesalers buy the Honey from beekeepers, middlemen or manufacturers in form of bulk or prepack and sell them in the same form as they bought to whoever asks for such as end users or retailers or any other firms.
Most of end users buy their Honeys from retailers such as department store, chain stores, retail shops and Honey shops.
Different firm and cooperative would buy and sell Honeys in small or large quantities to the exporters, retailers, wholesalers and other customers.
